Current Legislative Initiatives

As of February 2009

Although great progress was made during the 2008 legislative session compared to previous years, legislation to institute and fund a sound barrier program ultimately fell short. Senate Bill #287 was passed by the Senate and would have provided $10 million to establish a retrofit noise abatement program and begun addressing the locations deemed by ConnDOT to be of highest priority need, but was tabled by the House as it became clear that new funding initiatives were not going to be signed into law in response to looming budget deficits.

Regarding the current legislative session (2009), the following pieces of legislation have been introduced. It is too early to have any indication as to whether there is an appetite within the legislature to seriously consider these bills this year.

Bill # Title Notes
448 AN ACT CONCERNING THE INSTALLATION OF SOUND BARRIERS ALONG STATE HIGHWAYS IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY Would require the Department of Transportation to install sound barriers along state highways in Fairfield County
555 AN ACT REQUIRING THE CONSTRUCTION OF SOUND BARRIERS Would require the construction of sound barriers in all locations of a highway or interstate that are within five hundred feet of any residence in order to diminish the amount of noise suffered by persons residing near such highway or interstate
