In September 1999, the firm of KM Chng Environmental Inc. measured sound levels and highway traffic in Westport. The study showed that the highway traffic noise exceeded the volume at which federal and state guidelines recommend that noise abatement be considered.
- Wesport’s I-95 highway noise level averaged 72 decibels (dBA)
- Noise abatement measures, such as sound barriers, are recommended for areas where the noise exceeds 66 decibels.
This page includes a more detailed summary of the results of the sound study. The study at the time was paid for out of the member contributions to Got Noise?, and cost $5,263.80.
