Sound Travels — Beyond Westport, CT

To ensure we identify the most effective ways to solve this problem, and to demonstrate how important the issue of highway noise pollution is to the government, we have been collaborating with other groups affected by highway noise. We are aware of a similar group in Southport/Fairfield, as well as in Rocky Hill. The group in Rocky Hill was successful at getting barriers installed along I-91, and we are consulting with them about how they made their case that the changes made to I-91 over time qualified for Type I classification, which made more federal funding available for the barriers and obligated the state to install them.

One excellent source of information and ideas has been the Noise Pollution Clearinghouse, which has an extensive online library about highway noise and how that noise can be reduced.
